5 More Movies You Need to Show Your Teenage Daughter

My very first Medium article was a curated list of films I didn’t discover until after I graduated high school, but felt as if every teenager needed to watch them. They each hold such a powerful message that is better to show your kids as education over the latter of experiencing it yourself.

And just when I thought I found them all, I found even more.

That being said, here are five more films you should show your teenage daughter because I wished my mom had shown them to me.

1. Girl Fight (Bullying/Assault)

“Girl Fight” is a 2011 Lifetime film based on the true story of a Florida teen who was horrifically beaten by a group of girls she considered her friends.

Initially, I brushed this film off as being good because it was a Lifetime movie, but I’m glad I gave it a chance because it’s a good Lifetime movie with an important message.

The story centers around 16-year-old Haley (Jodelle Ferland), an honor student who skipped a grade and had a full scholarship to college the following year. However, the trade-off was she had felt like an outsider since her classmates were all older than her.

Eventually, one of the popular girls, named Alexa (Tess Atkins), begins to take Haley under her wing and invites her into her social circle after realizing she could use her for her quiz notes and homework help. As the two grow closer, the other girls in the group discover a thread of negative comments Haley wrote online about them, long before they all became friends.

Once Alexa discovers what Haley had said about them, the girls come up with a plan to lure Haley into Alexa’s house to beat her up, solely for the purpose of making a viral video to upload on YouTube.

Upon being sent to the hospital, Haley sustains a concussion, a ruptured eardrum, and permanent damage to her left eye. During her…
