My Unvaccinated Roommate Brought a “Chest Cold” Into Our Apartment

Meeting other people in college is a mixed bag. Surely, one of the first things you’re told when you start college is not everyone has lived their life the same way you have. Therefore, it’s important to keep an open mind.

But in a pandemic? That’s where I have a hard time agreeing with other people’s choices. Particularly ones that put others at risk.

I got a text from my roommate while I was between classes, asking if I had the chance to get her cough drops. After a quick trip to CVS, I arrived home to find her wrapped up in bed, practically hacking out her lungs.

She told me she tried to go to work, but 30 minutes into her shift her boss sent her home (as they should) and now she had spent most of her day clearing the phlegm out of her airways for a little relief. She looked miserable.

Your first question was probably “Well, does she have COVID?” And honestly, I wasn’t sure at that moment. But what is worse is I seemed to be the one that’s more concerned.

If the world was pandemic-free right now, I honestly wouldn’t think twice about my roommate going out with a cold. Hell, every college student has been there at one point or another. Would you…
