Thank you for this story Shannon. Everything about this dynamic is eerily similar to my relationship with my absent father (including being on his unreliable health insurance). Since he's walked out my brother and I celebrate my mom on father's day for being both roles (and she said the same thing to us as children, he loves us in his "own way").
