On August 14, 1980, Dorothy Stratten was shot and killed by her estranged husband Paul Snider after meeting up to discuss finances and ending their marriage.

Who Was Dorothy Stratten?

Dorothy Stratten (born as Dorothy Ruth Hoogstraten) was born on February 28, 1960 in Vancouver, British Columbia. Dorothy grew up with two younger siblings named John and Louise and her parents Simon and Nelly Hoogstraten. Many of her relatives and friends described her as “breathtakingly beautiful” but she never realized how pretty she truly was.

When she was a teenager, Dorothy attended Centennial High School in Coquitlam, British Columbia and also worked part time at a Dairy Queen in 1977 to help her mom with bills. One day during one of her shifts, she came across a customer named Paul Snider who was 26 at the time. Paul was nearly a decade older than Dorothy and worked as a local pimp and auto show promoter.

However, Paul didn’t keep it very discreet that he was a local pimp. Teresa Carpenter who wrote an award winning cover story on the murder said:
